Western EcoSystems Technology, Inc. (WEST), a dynamic medium size consulting firm with offices across the United States, is looking for a Biological Field Technician.  Since 1990, WEST has grown to be one of the premier environmental and statistical consulting firms in the United States. WEST has a permanent core of professionals with broad experience in basic and applied ecological studies and the sophisticated analysis of natural resource data.
Description: Field Technicians to conduct surveys for marbled murrelet. Marbled murrelet surveys will follow a strict protocol, and surveyors will be required to work early mornings, hike in the dark, endure inclement weather, and navigate steep/forested terrain. Murrelet surveys will occur from late April – August 5. These positions are considered full time seasonal, with anticipated workloads of 30-40+ hours week. Technicians must be able to communicate and work effectively with one another and WEST supervisors. Technicians will be required to follow all safety protocols for WEST and will be expected to use good judgment to stay safe while working.
A vehicle will be provided or mileage will be reimbursed at standard government rates. Preference will be given to qualified applicants that have a suitable field vehicle that can be used and live with proximately of Corvallis.

It is preferred that applicants have a B.S. degree in wildlife biology or a related field and a minimum of 1-year field experience. Marbled murrelet experience is preferred, but not required if the applicant has strong field and birding skills. Technician must take and pass marbled murrelet field survey training. Cost of training will be reimbursed once passed.

Job requires the person filling this position to be able to: appear for work on time; hike on/off trail in steep and often brushy terrain; have basic map reading skills; have a valid driver license and be able to navigate forest/logging roads in the dark; ability to record accurate and reliable field data; to follow instructions from managers and team leaders; to interact effectively with coworkers and clients; and to accept guidance and constructive criticism. Applicants must have normal vision and hearing, a hearing test will be required per the protocol and will be given prior to the start of the surveys.
