Western EcoSystems Technology, Inc. (WEST), a dynamic medium size consulting firm with offices across the United States, is looking for a temporary Data Entry Technician in our Bloomington, IN office.  Since 1990, WEST has grown to be one of the premier environmental and statistical consulting firms in the United States. Job Description:
WEST has an opening for a data entry position that will also involve conducting biological field surveys for part of the time. Primary responsibilities of this position include data entry using Access and SQL databases, managing datasheets and databases for each project, and communicating with project managers and data management leads about project details and deadlines. Secondary responsibilities may involve conducting field work on as needed basis that may involve bat acoustic surveys, raptor nest surveys, fixed-point count avian survey and helping out with monitoring bird and bat fatalities at wind farms.
 
Job duties require knowledge of Access and SQL databases, as well as use of compass, Global Positioning System devices, and other field work devices. Training will be provided for each task requested.   An average workweek may include 20-30 hours, though seasonal workloads will vary and some weeks may require working 40 hours or more.  Housing will not be provided. Successful candidates must be able to travel for some of the time and work in a remote field setting, work well both independently and with others, and follow data entry and field protocols.  A vehicle for travel will not be provided but mileage will be reimbursed if requested to travel to a field site. All field and office equipment necessary to complete the requested tasks will be provided by WEST.

Compensation: $12-15/ per hour DOE (higher salary available for crew leaders)

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, wildlife management, wildlife biology or equivalent degree preferred. Undergraduates and other enthusiastic workers are encouraged to apply. Must be able to work independently and in small groups, and interact positively with project managers, clients, landowners, and other technicians. Candidates experienced in data entry, database management, and bat and bird identification will be given preference.
 
Applicants must be in good physical shape, as field surveys will be conducted in locations where temperatures and conditions can be extreme. Skilled use of topographic maps, compass, GPS unit, and other field equipment is required.
 
Job requires the person filling this position be able to appear for work on time; to walk for long periods of time; to follow instructions from manager and team leader; to interact effectively with coworkers and clients; to maintain positive attitude; and to accept guidance and constructive criticism.  Precise and thorough data collection is essential.
 
Successful candidates must be able to pass a background check; a pre-employment drug screen; and a DMV records check that meets WEST’s minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company.  A valid driver’s license will be required.  Candidates must adhere to all health and safety requirements.
